Salmon Bothy is a lovely cosy cottage situated in the beautiful Scottish Highlands in Sutherland, sitting in an elevated position with spectacular sea views and located on the edge of the quaint village of Armadale. The area is ideal for bird enthusiasts and walkers alike with Armadale Bay Beach within a few minutes walking distance.

This cottage is an ideal base to explore the beautiful North Scottish coast and the North Coast 500 and an ideal getaway for the peace and tranquility of Highland Life.

The Cottage is also ideally situated for exploring northern Scotland and the coast, located 24 miles from Thurso and 31 miles from the Kyle of Tongue with its dramatic beaches and vast abundance of wildlife. There are a number of walks from the door, not only down to the local beach, but another another up a track to the rear to an ancient clearing village, ideal for guests who want to truly experience this rugged and spectacular coastline.

Beaches are scenic, stunning and plentiful and can be found within driving distance, including Betty Hill’s Farr Beach, Torrisdale, Strathy Beach, Melvich Beach to name just a few.

For golfing enthusiasts there are 11 golf courses within 60 miles, these include Durness, Reay Thurso, Wick, Lybster, Helmsdale, Brora, Struie & Tain.

Thurso offers an abundance of shops, restaurants and boat trips to explore the surrounding waters.

Fishing season with a permit is from April to September and The Hallidale River boasts some of the best Salmon fishing in the area, Permits are available to purchase locally. Information can be given.

If visiting a Whisky Distillery is on your list of things to do there are 9 within 20 miles.

John o’ Groats is 44 miles away and is very popular with tourists as it is the UK mainland’s most northeastern tip.

Armadale is located just 30 minutes drive from The Forsinard Flows National Nature Reserve. Forsinard is a protected RSPB area and it lies in the heart of the flow country, a large rolling expanse of peatland and wetland. A must visit for wildlife and bird enthusiasts.

The Cottage is situated less than 1 mile off the renowned North Coast 500 route, arguably one of the most scenic road trips the UK has to offer, encompassing wild countryside, spectacular coastlines, mountains and munro’s, numerous villages, small towns and historic places of interest along the way. There is an abundance of things to see in the Sutherland area, including ancient castles, archaeological sites and places of interest all within driving distance.

For wildlife enthusiasts there are puffins, cormorants, seals, dolphins, whales, deer and pine marten all seen in the region. There are some good facilities in the small village of Bettyhill 13 miles away including two shops (one of which includes a post office), café, restaurant and even a swimming pool. Golf, fishing, kayaking, sailing, cycling, horse riding and hill-walking are all local pursuits.

The Aurora Borealis or The Northern Lights have been seen from Salmon Bothy and some very impressive photo's were taken, It's not guaranteed of course but there is a possibility that they could show themselves whilst you visit. What a treat that would be?
